Trentinara: il borgo antico e la via dell'amore Le Guide di Paestum e Velia en
Trentinara is just 18 km from Paestum, it’s a little town lying on the Catenna hill. Its origin seems to go back to Roman times, and it is possible that the name derives from “3 denarii” that is three coins, given to the soldiers guarding the aqueduct. When people living on the coast escaped inland because of the Saracens’ attacks, in the late 7th century a.D., the population increased and the town became bigger. The old town still preserves the medieval urban structure, made of narrow streets, stone houses finely decorated with magnificent portals dating back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Absolutely worth seeing is the way of love, a nice path realized through some houses and marked by verses of different poets, carved on colored majolica. The verses tell about the legendary love between Saul and Isabel.
At the end of the way there is a wide terrace leaning onto a natural valley, called "La Terrazza del Cilento", offering a beautiful panorama of the Amalfi coast, the Cilento coast and Capri.
After going around through the old town, you may experience something very exciting!
For the bravest there is a panoramic zipline suspended at a height of 1,586 meters. It runs at a speed between 60 and 120 km per hour.
The tour takes about 2 hours.
