Grotte di Pertosa-Auletta: nelle viscere della Terra Le Guide di Paestum e Velia en
In the heart of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano lie the Alburni Mountains, a part of the Lucan Apennines extending between the Tanagro Valley and the Sele River.
Known as the southern Dolomites, the Alburni mountains are characterized by calcareous porous rocks and numerous caves and sinkholes.
The caves of Pertosa-Auletta, together with those of Castelcivita, are undoubtedly the most important and spectacular complex in this territory.
They develop under the ground, for about three chilometres, between Auletta and Polla, on the left side of River Tanagro. These caves have two characteristics that make them truly exclusive: they are the only caves in Italy, where you can go by boat along the river, and the only ones in Europe to preserve the remains of a pile-dwelling village dating from the second millennium b.C.
The itinerary allows you to make a fascinating journey underground, through caves shaped by nature over thousands of years and rich in stalactites and stalagmites with unusual shapes and colors.
An unforgettable journey, immersed in a disarming beauty and absolute silence, through various spaces with evocative names, such as the Hall of Paradise, the Hall of Sponges and the Arm of Wonders.
