Da Rocca Cilento a Vatolla con filosofia Le Guide di Paestum e Velia en
The tour develops in the territory that was once the ancient Barony of Cilento. We will start with the discovery of Rocca Cilento, where the capital of this Barony was established. The reason is that this place dominates a vast territory ranging from north to south. In the old town center we will have the feeling that time slowed down; everything appears almost intact and above all we will be amazed by the power of the castle that dominates the entire town.
Not far from the castle, there is a Franciscan monastery of the fifteenth century.
The tour goes on to Vatolla, cradle of philosophical activities.
Vatolla is a hill town where Gian Battista Vico, Neapolitan philosopher of the seventeenth century lived. After meeting in a bookstore of Naples the bishop of Ischia Geronimo Rocca, the philosopher agreed to move to Cilento as a teacher of the children of the marquis Rocca, brother of the bishop. He lived here for 9 years.
Here in the castle “Vargas" it’s possible to read old books of Vico’s library and to appreciate particular furnishings and paintings of this rich family.
